LED knowledge : Being Bright Enough May Not Be A Good Light.

2022-09-02
  • What Are LEDs?

Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor electronic component that can convert electric energy into light energy. Its internal structure is a PN junction with single conductivity.

LED mainly consists of the following parts:

·Chip (function: light source emits light)

·Support: including substrate, heat dissipation base, pins, etc. (role: heat dissipation, conductivity)

·Gold wire (function: conductive)

·Transparent resin (function: to protect crystal grains and transmit light)

  • LED Characteristics

1. High Energy Saving

LED is a cold light source, which emits far less heat when lit than traditional light sources, effectively reducing the load of indoor air conditioners and saving electricity for air conditioners. The utilization rate of LED light source products can be increased to 100%, and the illumination is more uniform.

2. Long Life

The service life is more than 30000 hours, saving maintenance costs.

3. More Comfortable

No stroboscopic, no radiation, no harm to human body, even, soft and comfortable light effect. LED is made of non-toxic materials, while fluorescent lamps contain harmful substances, which will cause serious pollution.

4. Beneficial to Environmental Protection

·It is a typical green light source with low carbon and environmental protection and will not pollute the environment.

·Raw materials can be recycled.

·The spectrum does not contain ultraviolet and infrared rays, and the object will not fade.

5. More Secure

It is safe and stable. LED mainly consists of chips, electrodes and optical systems. Ordinary vibration and frequent lighting will not affect the product life, and the performance will be more stable and reach the best brightness immediately after lighting.

  • Illuminance

The quantity indicating the illumination degree of the surface is called illuminance. The unit is lux (lx), which is the luminous flux received per unit area.

The kitchen is generally about 300-350Lx

The living room is generally about 100-300Lx

The bedroom is generally about 100-150Lx

  • Anti-Glare

Causes of glare products:

·Because of the stimulation of high brightness, the pupil shrinks;

·Intraocular tissue products scatter to form a light curtain;

·The retina is stimulated by high brightness, which destroys the adaptive state.

glare

Main factors causing serious glare of lamps:

·The higher the single lamp brightness, the more obvious the glare;

·The lower the installation position of the lamp or the closer to the line of sight, the more obvious the glare;

·The larger the luminous surface area of the lamp, the more obvious the glare;

·The darker the environment, the lower the adaptive brightness of the eyes, and the more obvious the glare.

Hazards of glare:

·Permanent impairment of vision.

·Visual fatigue, dry eyes, swelling and pain.

·Not comfortable, unable to concentrate.

  • Color Temperature

Color temperature is a physical quantity used to define the color of light source in lighting optics. That is, when a blackbody is heated to a temperature where the color of the light emitted is the same as that of the light emitted by a light source, the temperature heated by the blackbody is called the color temperature of the light source, referred to as the color temperature, and its unit is expressed in "K".

The higher the color temperature value, the more inclined to cold color. The lower the color temperature value, the warmer the color. Different color temperatures will make people have different associations, leading to different physiological effects.

Illuminated by high color temperature light source, it gives people a natural and transparent atmosphere; Illuminated by low color temperature light source, it gives people a warm and pleasant feeling.

The light source color temperature is different, the light color is different, and the feeling is different.

  • Color Rendering

Color rendering refers to the different color characteristics of light sources with different spectra when they illuminate the same color physically. Usually, the color rendering index (Ra) is used to represent the color rendering of light sources. The higher the color rendering index of the light source, the better the color rendering performance.

Color rendering refers to the fidelity of color. Expressed as a percentage, the highest index is 100. The light source with high color rendering has a better reproduction of color, and the color we see is closer to the natural primary color; The light source with low color rendering performance has poor color reproduction, and the color deviation we see is also large.

Left: High color rendering; Right: Low color rendering

Being Bright Enough May Not Be A Good Light.

When we purchase LED lamps,

Do not be misled:

Think that an LED light that is bright enough is a good light.

A really good lamp,

In addition to LED with high quality,

In addition to light efficiency, luminous flux and illuminance,

whether there is glare,

appropriate color temperature,

the height of color development,

are closely related to human health.
